Bay Federal Credit Union raises record number of meals for Second Harvest Food Bank

Nearly 127,600 meals raised for families in Santa Cruz county – doubling last year’s record drive

Bay Federal Credit Union members and employees raised $31,899.63 for Second Harvest Food Bank’s Holiday Food Drive from November 1 to December 31, 2020. This record amount doubles the previous amount from 2019.

Thanks to Second Harvest’s incredible partnerships with farmers, retailers, and food bank networks, this translates into 127,599 healthy meals for families in Santa Cruz County. Due to the pandemic, Bay Federal was not able to offer donation barrels at their locations as it could in previous years. Instead, the organization focused on an online giving presence to keep members safe.

“Thank you to our employees and members who put forth an amazing effort to support Second Harvest Food Bank”, said Bay Federal President and CEO Carrie Birkhofer. “We are honored to join many others in our community to help this incredible organization meet the increased demands to feed those who are hungry.”

Bay Federal Credit Union has supported Second Harvest Food Bank for 24 years. In Santa Cruz County, one in five people face hunger. One in four are children. Second Harvest Food Bank’s mission is to end hunger through healthy food, education, and leadership.
