WOODBRIDGE, VA (June 9, 2014) — ¾ Belvoir Federal Credit Union employees raised funds to purchase 48 financial themed books which were donated to the Fort Belvoir Elementary School on Fort Belvoir, Virginia.

Belvoir Federal hosted “Dress Down Thursdays” where employees could donate money to dress casual at work on Thursdays throughout April, a month recognized by the United States as Financial Literacy month. The employee’s donations exceeded $330. The funds were used to purchase 48 financial themed books, such as Once Upon a Dime, The Penny Pot, A Chair for My Mother, Lemonade for Sale, and others.

“We are grateful for a partnership with Belvoir Federal Credit Union. Because of you, we are able to make financial literacy come alive for our students by giving them a hands-on opportunity to learn and grow which would not otherwise be available. So, thank you,” stated Theresa Carhart, Principal of Fort Belvoir Elementary School.

Patricia Kimmel, CEO of Belvoir Federal Credit Union, stated, “We are proud that our employees came together to help raise awareness of financial literacy for our leaders of tomorrow. It is important to help sculpt their young minds so they can make educated decisions in the future, especially when it comes to finances.”
