Bloom Credit Union and school district help each other meet facility goals

GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN (December 19, 2023) — Bloom Credit Union announced Monday that they have sold their Wyoming building at 1414 Burton St. S.W. to their next-door neighbor, Godfrey-Lee Public Schools.  The move will allow Bloom to continue to operate the Wyoming branch out of that building for a time, while they move their growing administrative staff to a larger space at 401 Hall St. S.W.  “We ran out of office space and the growing school district needed additional, nearby space, so this is a solution that works well for both organizations,” Joe Heintskill, CEO of Bloom Credit Union said.

“Finding space to expand in the Godfrey-Lee School district has been a challenge, so being able to do it right next door to the district’s Administration Building is an ideal situation,” Dr. Arnetta Thompson, Superintendent of Godfrey-Lee Schools, said.

Bloom Credit Union will eventually move their Wyoming branch to another nearby location, to continue to meet the needs of people who live and work in the area.  Meanwhile, Bloom will be able to bring their administrative staff back together under one roof.

A friendly conversation between the two long-time neighbors planted the seed for the idea.  Since then, the credit union has donated the funds to purchase a much-needed new scoreboard at the Lee High School athletic complex.

“Being able to move our corporate office into a nearby facility that is called the most environmentally-friendly building in the city, feels like an excellent fit for Bloom Credit Union,“ Heintskill said.  He also announced that for every new account opened at Bloom Credit Union in 2024, a tree will be planted in Michigan, thanks to a new partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation.”

The credit union was founded in 1951 and now has five branches in the Greater Grand Rapids area.  In 2019 My Personal Credit Union became Bloom Credit Union, to better represent the organization’s goal of helping people thrive financially.  They offer a wide range of financial services, from credit cards and mortgages to small business loans and convenient 24/7 services like online banking, a versatile app and access to 30,000 ATMs.
