Bloom Credit Union breaks ground for new Wyoming branch

GRAND RAPIDS, MI (August 20, 2025) |

Bloom Credit Union held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new Wyoming branch on Tuesday, August 19.  Located at 911 28th Street S.W., it is expected to open in the Spring of 2026.

“This new, more contemporary facility will allow us to better serve our current members, while also offering area residents a convenient and valuable financial services alternative,” Joe Heintskill, CEO of WMCU said.  “The new branch will offer state-of-the-art financial services, and a comfortable place to get helpful guidance.”  It will have drive-up service lanes.

“The new branch will be just a few blocks from U.S. 131, so it’s convenient for anyone traveling through the area,” Heintskill continued.  It’s also near Bloom’s 1414 Burton Street S.W. branch, so current members won’t have far to go.  Bloom sold that building to Godfrey Lee Public Schools, providing them with some much-needed space nearby.  “It was a real win-win situation for both of us,” Heintskill said.  Bloom recently moved its Administrative Offices from that location to 401 Hall Street S.W.  The 1414 Burton Street branch will remain open until the new 28th Street location officially opens next Spring.

Bloom Credit Union and West Michigan Credit Union, two similar size Grand Rapids based credit unions who had been providing financial services for over 70 years, merged on April 1, 2025.  The new organization has assets of more than $450 million, employs 125 people and serves approximately 34,000 members.  Both organizations continue to serve members under their individual names.  Bloom Credit Union is now “Bloom Credit Union, A Division of WMCU.”  West Michigan Credit Union is also a division of WMCU.

Combined, WMCU has eleven branches in Michigan.  West Michigan Credit Union has branches in Grand Rapids, Big Rapids, Reed City, Cadillac and Manistee.  Bloom Credit Union has branches in Grand Rapids, Wyoming, Georgetown and Coopersville.  Members can utilize all these locations.

The credit union offers a range of financial services, from credit cards and mortgages to small business loans and convenience services like online banking, a versatile app and access to 30,000 ATMs.  People who live in Kent, Ottawa, Muskegon, Allegan, Barry, Benzie, Clare, Calhoun, Eaton, Grand Traverse, Ionia, Isabella, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Kalkaska, Lake, Manistee, Mason, Mecosta, Missaukee, Montcalm, Newaygo, Oceana, Osceola and Wexford counties can join either credit union.
