Business and Community Leaders Puckered Up and Raised $35,000 to Support Financial Literacy Programs in Local Schools

Second annual Kiss A Pig Fundraiser a success

TREVOSE, Pa.
– Twenty-one community leaders, professionals, and teachers kissed a pig at TruMark Financial’s Second Annual Kiss-a-Pig Financial Literacy Fundraiser. Monies raised will support area schools in their efforts to teach personal finance. Over the past three months, participants secured sponsors and donations to raise $35,000, more than double the amount raised last year, for the opportunity to kiss a pig in support of financial literacy.

Fundraising efforts culminated with a “pig kissing” event on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, at the Piazza at Schmidt’s, 1015 N. 2nd Street, Philadelphia, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., where family, friends, and colleagues of the participants cheered them on as they puckered up with a pot-bellied pig named Bubbles for this worthy cause. John DeBella of WMGK FM served as emcee for the event with guest appearances from Mike Jerrick and Jennaphr Frederick, Fox 29 news anchors; Marilyn Russell, 95.7 BEN FM; and Tony Bruno, 97.5 FM the Fanatic. Mike Jerrick and Tony Bruno couldn’t resist the opportunity to kiss a pig and jointly took the stage to give Bubbles a smooch.

Pennsylvania public schools have witnessed huge cuts in their budgets with more proposed in the upcoming year. As a result, vital programs will be eliminated. The Kiss A Pig Financial Literacy Fundraiser will provide much needed resources to teach the fundamentals of saving, borrowing, and investing, making a positive influence on the financial futures of young adults. Without the benefit of financial literacy education, these students may be left behind and become another statistic plagued with debt.
