Carolina Trust Federal Credit Union receives Carolinas Credit Union Foundation awards

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (February 24, 2020) — Carolina Trust Federal Credit Union recently received two awards through the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation for its bullying prevention program and member disaster relief loan.

For the second year in a row, Carolina Trust placed at the state-level for the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award. The Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award is given to a credit union for its social responsibility projects within the community. The Credit Union was awarded second place for its bullying prevention program, “I’m A Buddy, Not A Bully.” During the 2019-2020 school year, Carolina Trust partnered with former NFL player, Ricky Sapp and his foundation, on public service announcements and school visits. The campaign has grown to include 31 participating schools from Horry and Southern Florence County. During the school visits, the Credit Union provides fifth-grade students with resources on the effects of bullying, and how to prevent and report it. Students are then asked to take an anti-bullying pledge. Nearly 4,000 students have taken the I’m A Buddy, Not A Bully pledge in the last two years!

Carolina Trust was awarded first place at the state-level and second place at the national level for the Louise Herring Philosophy in Action Member Service Award category, for its Member Disaster Relief Loan. The Louise Herring Philosophy in Action Award is given to a credit union for practical application of the credit union philosophy “People Helping People.” The Credit Union’s Member Disaster Relief Loan provided members with added financial support during their recovery efforts following Hurricane Florence. This fixed-rate loan was designed to help those who were impacted, with any costs related to the storm. To qualify for this loan, individuals were required to provide proof of loss (i.e. copy of insurance claim, medical bill during recovery time frame, letter from employer on letter head with verification or time lost at work, invoice from companies providing work/service, etc.) Carolina Trust also waived several fees and implemented financial assistance programs to those who were impacted by the storm.
