Carolinas League promotes Billy Boylston to SVP of Advocacy
COLUMBIA, SC (January 24, 2023) — Nine-year Carolinas Credit Union League veteran Billy Boylston has advanced to senior vice president of advocacy effective January 1, 2023, assuming leadership of the association’s primary role across North and South Carolina.
Boylston and an Advocacy team he is working to complete are committed to protecting and enhancing the credit union charter through effective federal and state-level governmental affairs, grassroots action, and PAC fundraising. He also joins Dan Schline, Lauren DeAngelis, and Craig Beach on the League executive team.
“To say I’ve enjoyed my time at the League for the last nine years is an understatement:” Boylston reflects. “The League is a special organization, and I enjoy being part of a team that that strives every day to further the credit union movement. I look forward to my new role, and continuing to build on our efforts to advocate for our credit unions for years to come.”
Soon after joining the League in 2013 as director of governmental affairs in South Carolina, Billy helped reorganize and improve PAC fundraising efforts through the Carolinas Capital Club. His spearheading of efforts to update the SC Credit Union Act delivered improvements in 2018, 2020, and 2021. Over time, his engagement has fostered strong relationships with elected officials, including those who have progressed from state capitol to congressional leadership.
“Billy has been invaluable to our advocacy efforts throughout his tenure. He is well respected, extremely talented, and passionate about credit union and consumer interests,” notes League CEO Dan Schline. “I’m excited to see him lead an advocacy team that will help credit unions in the Carolinas serve their members well into the future.”
Billy has extensive experience on Capitol Hill, in Columbia, and in the political realm. Prior to joining the League, he was a staffer for two congressmen, supported candidate and presidential campaigns, and worked for a national party convention. He is a native of Seneca, South Carolina, an alumnus of Clemson University with a BA in Political Science, and a 2021 graduate of Leadership South Carolina.
