Celebrate Veterans Day & start your holiday giving season at InTouch Credit Union

ITCU Will Match up to $2,500 in Monetary or Cell Phone Donations to Cell Phones For Soldiers®

PLANO, TX (October 28, 2014) — While the country celebrates Veterans Day in early November and moves forward into the holiday season, InTouch Credit Union (ITCU) wants to invite the community to visit ITCU to pay tribute to our brave troops overseas who won’t be home for the holidays as they serve our country.

Through Friday, December 19, ITCU is offering to match donations made to Cell Phones For Soldiers® (CPFS), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, which earns much of their funds by recycling cell phones. CPFS uses those funds to purchase prepaid international calling cards for troops stationed abroad, so that they may connect with loved ones at home.

During this time, in the credit union industry spirit of, “not for profit, not for charity, but for service,” ITCU will give CPFS $1 for each phone donated at an ITCU branch and an equal dollar match for all monetary donations made through the Credit Union, up to $2,500. Both monetary and cell phone donations can be dropped off at ITCU branches. Those wishing to make a monetary donation online with their funds matched by ITCU should visit for instructions.

Cell Phones For Soldiers has provided more than 210 million minutes of free talk time to servicemen and women stationed around the world over the past decade. On average, CPFS generates 30 minutes of talk time with each dollar they earn.

“InTouch is excited once again to honor America’s troops along with the help of our generous members. We were so pleased to work with a worthy organization like Cell Phones For Soldiers this past spring that in the seasonal spirit of giving, we decided to work with them again for the holidays,” said Diane Gerstner, Executive Vice President of InTouch Credit Union.

Earlier in 2014, ITCU along with their members donated a total of $4,000, as well as several hundred cell phones, to Cell Phones For Soldiers as a part of the InTouch Credit Union 40th Anniversary ‘cell’ebration.

“Each year we have been humbled by the number of people and organizations like InTouch Credit Union that have taken the initiative to support our troops,” said CPFS co-founder Robbie Bergquist. “Closing the geographic gap between those serving and their families is a crucial need that Cell Phones For Soldiers believes in and is committed to addressing as long as it has support from great companies, like InTouch.”

“At this time of year especially, we must remember those who risk their lives every day, without their families, so that we can have the freedom to be safe at home with our own loved ones,” added Gerstner.

Those who wish to get involved in the InTouch Credit Union Holiday Donation Drive may drop off cell phones and/or monetary donations at ITCU branches now through Friday, December 19, 2014. For every cell phone collected at an ITCU branch during this period, ITCU will donate $1 to Cell Phones For Soldiers. Those wishing to make a monetary donation online with their funds matched by ITCU should visit for instructions. Any qualified monetary donations made during this time period will also be matched, up to a donation limit of $2,500 in total by the Credit Union.
