Community cools off with free sno-cones from Pelican State Credit Union

(May 22, 2015) — It pays to have a Pelican State Credit Union branch in your community! Kaitlin Dorn knows first hand; she was one of 671 locals who enjoyed a free sno-cone at the Sno-Shack in Alexandria, Louisiana, on Wednesday, May 20, 2015. For the second consecutive year, Pelican took over the Sno-Shack and paid for every single person’s sno-cone from 2:30 – 5:00 p.m.

“Thank you Pelican!” exclaimed Dorn as she drove away from the stand. Dorn and her friend Jeffery Sibley were one of the first cars in line. “My mom told me about the free sno-cones, and I didn’t believe her at first,” added Dorn.

There was no catch! The Sno-Shack Takeover is one of the many ways Pelican gives back to its branch communities and encourages consumers to bank local. The credit union gave away 531 sno-cones to Rapides Parish residents last year and over $2,619 in cash during its Pineville Branch Grand Opening at 3628 Monroe Highway in January.

The drive-thru Sno-Shack is locally owned and operated by Doug and Tami Oliver. It is located at 2960 S. MacArthur Drive across from Academy and Hana Japanese Steakhouse

Pelican representatives had a great time greeting guests and giving everyone a free 17-ounce sno-cone that came in a color changing cup. Guests were able to choose their flavor from a list of the Sno-Shack’s most popular and even add condensed milk on top for free!

Pelican’s Alexandria branch is located at 4520 Lee Street and has been part of the community for five years. Pelican members can benefit from free one-on-one credit counseling, a variety of convenient products and services and several opportunities to win cash and prizes throughout the year.
