GECU, a federal credit union serving Texas and New Mexico, was honored to welcome Congresswoman Veronica Escobar to its operations center in El Paso, Texas, during the August congressional recess. The visit provided an opportunity for GECU leadership to showcase the credit union’s community-driven initiatives that foster financial well-being for all members, while also demonstrating the integral role that credit unions play in supporting the local economy.
Congresswoman Escobar engaged with GECU executives to discuss key legislation that affects credit unions and their members. The conversation covered the credit union movement’s advocacy efforts and explored how legislative actions can strengthen credit unions’ ability to serve their communities.
During the visit, Rep. Escobar toured GECU’s headquarters, interacting with employees across various departments. This provided her with a comprehensive view of how a credit union operates and the vital contributions of its workforce to member service and the broader financial ecosystem.
“We are grateful to have had the opportunity to demonstrate the important role credit unions play in communities,” said Monica Galindo, GECU Assistant Vice President of Advocacy and External Affairs. “This visit highlighted the credit union industry’s commitment to the people helping people philosophy, and we were able to discuss how credit unions like GECU can continue making a positive impact.”
The visit emphasized the importance of credit unions as financial cooperatives, their advocacy for legislative solutions that benefit members, and their mission of promoting financial well-being for all.
