Coosa Pines FCU raises record donations for foster children

CHILDERSBURG, AL (February 5, 2021)

In their annual Giving Tree campaign, Coosa Pines Federal Credit Union collects cash and gift donations to sponsor children in need and foster children through the Department of Human Resources in counties served by the credit union. In 2020 the promotion raised a record-breaking $13,321.82.

For years, the staff at Coosa Pines have adopted children at Christmas. They opened the effort to their members and communities in 2018. The credit union matches cash and gift donations up to $5,000.00 but spent slightly more this year. Including the matching funds, a generous $18,891.24 was spent to make Christmas 2020 special for many local children.

Manager of Marketing Aimee Morris admitted that she was concerned about donations in the year of COVID. “So many people have struggled due to the virus that I was worried we wouldn’t have enough to meet the need,” said Morris. “Gifts were coming in, and I was bagging and tagging them to send out, but I really did not have a sense of just how much we had collected.”

When the collection was over, it became clear how much support the promotion had generated. In the end, there were so many gifts that hundreds more were sent to DHR offices to be disbursed among children in need.

The credit union plans to continue the Giving Tree project each year. “The credit union motto is ‘People Helping People’,” said President/CEO Don Carden. “Our staff and members exemplify that principle whenever there are others in need.”
