Credit Union of Southern California donates $150,000 to local businesses, organizations impacted by COVID-19

CA-based Credit Union of Southern California (CU SoCal) is donating a total of $150,000 to more than 50 local businesses as well as two non-profit organizations as part of its “Merry Givemas” event, held Dec. 18, 2020.

The credit union is making donations totaling $100,000 to businesses hard-hit by the pandemic and its economic fallout.  CU SoCal donated four gift cards to each business that could be given to employees. Business owners were grateful for the donations, saying it would help not only their businesses but also help their employees enjoy a better holiday season. Some said they would combine the gift cards and use the funds to buy something for each of their staff that they knew they needed.

“We’re honored to help those businesses and their employees in our community negatively impacted during these challenging time,” said CU SoCal President and CEO Dave Gunderson. “Credit unions were founded as financial cooperatives specifically to help one another. And, in good times or in bad, that purpose has not wavered.”

In addition, the credit union is donating a total of $50,000 to the Women’s and Children’s Crisis Shelter and the Interfaith Food Center, both located in Whittier.

“We continue to be committed to our ‘People Helping People’ philosophy.” Gunderson added, “It feels good to do good.”
