Credit Union of Texas donates $1.5 million toward new facility for Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County
New center will help serve up to 10,000 Collin County clients per year in the future
ALLEN, TX (December 16, 2020) —
As part of its ongoing commitment to the communities it serves, Credit Union of Texas (CUTX) has made a $1.5 million donation to Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County. The donation, made as part of the Center’s $10 million capital campaign, is earmarked for the construction of an additional Children’s Advocacy Center facility in McKinney that will focus on supplying services to the residents of rapidly growing northern Collin County.
In 2019, the Children’s Advocacy Center provided support to nearly 4,000 clients throughout Collin County, and at the height of the COVID-19 quarantine, the Center’s assistance to families increased by 44%. These statistics, combined with research showing that Collin County is projected to triple in population by 2050 to 3.8 million residents, indicated the need for speedy development of a second facility, allowing the Center to accommodate up to 10,000 clients in the coming years.

In addition to helping fund the new center, CUTX’s long-standing, deep commitment to Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County includes regular team member volunteer hours for facility maintenance, cleaning of therapy and visitation rooms, as well as participation in the Center’s annual back-to-school fair and its Community Education initiative. CUTX is also the presenting sponsor for the Center’s annual fundraising gala and its “Candy Canes for Kids” holiday event, a beloved Collin County charity holiday toy drive that collects unwrapped toys and donations. An estimated 30-50 employees of CUTX annually commit over 150 volunteer hours per year to Children’s Advocacy Center initiatives and events.

Construction for the new 44,000 square-foot facility is planned to begin Summer 2021, with the facility to be fully operational by Fall 2022. The new center will house more than 200 professionals, including law enforcement from the McKinney and Allen Police Departments, the Collin County Sheriff’s Offices, and representatives from Texas Child Protective Services (CPS) as well as forensic interviewers, family advocates and therapeutic counselors, all dedicated to clients in northern Collin County.
