Credit Union of Texas introduces special needs greeter initiative across North Texas
Special needs students provide branch visitors with a warm welcome and personal assistance
ALLEN, TX (February 2, 2021) —
Credit Union of Texas (CUTX) recently launched its special needs greeter initiative, providing job opportunities to special education students attending high schools throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Originally founded by a group of teachers, the initiative continues CUTX’s strong partnerships with school districts throughout the region and reflects its continued commitment to the communities it serves. “Our goal is that our members feel welcome and receive the highest-quality customer service when they visit a Credit Union of Texas branch,” said Courtney Coss, Chief Retail Officer for CUTX. “With the help of the special needs greeters, our customers receive just that— a friendly greeting and personal assistance every time they walk through the door.”
CUTX leadership team members first conceived the initiative when they were challenged to find the right fit for their greeter team member positions. Because of its longstanding, local school district partnerships, CUTX offers a familiar environment with the flexibility that is ideal for special needs students transitioning from high school. The program also provides the special needs greeters with valuable life skills and the opportunity to receive on- the-job training for future employment.
Following discussions with several area school districts, the program launched at the CUTX Dallas branch on Ross Avenue quickly followed by locations in Richardson and Wylie. The program, which currently employs eight greeters, will also expand to Frisco and Allen branches, and CUTX plans to employ special needs greeters at all locations soon.
CUTX works with transition specialists, designated coordinators who oversee special education programs, to select greeter candidates from each local school district. Each greeter candidate must have strong social skills, be over the age of 18 and be able to work at least three hours a day to qualify for the paid positions.
Like all CUTX employees, each special needs greeter participates in CUTX’s Experience University training as part of the onboarding process. Additionally, each greeter is initially accompanied by a school-appointed job coach focused on helping the student transition from school and acclimate to the new work environment. As the program continues to grow, all special needs greeters will be considered for other open positions with CUTX.
