Credit Union to Inaugurate Three In-School Branches this Month

MIAMI (Oct. 18, 2012) – This fall, South Florida Educational Federal Credit Union’s (FCU) in-school branch program will train more than 35 students to operate Credit Union branches in six high schools. Initiated in 2010, the program teaches students basic money management skills through the accessibility of an on-site Credit Union branch.

William H. Turner Tech, Miami Sunset and Miami Northwestern senior high schools will inaugurate their Credit Union branches this October.

Although students are trained and supervised by South Florida Educational FCU staff, they are responsible for opening new accounts, conducting transactions, working with school officials to set hours of operation and motivating their fellow students to save money.

To reinforce good saving habits, South Florida Educational FCU’s award winning “Got Green?” financial literacy program will conduct classroom workshops on goal setting, money management, budgeting, investing, and credit management. Last school year, “Got Green?” reached the largest number of Florida students and ranked second nationwide in financial literacy outreach, according to the National Youth Involvement Board (NYIB) which tracks financial literacy presentations among credit unions.
