Credit Unions of South Carolina Assist House of Hope, Challenges Others to Help

Florence, SC – The Credit Unions of South Carolina’s ongoing MADTAG (Making a Difference, Passing it ON) campaign contributed $1,000 worth of supplies to the House of Hope in Florence last week. The donations were provided in response to a public request from the House of Hope for operational supplies within the last few weeks.

“The credit union mantra is people helping people, and this was an opportunity for credit unions around Florence to collaboratively pitch in and help make a difference in our community” said Will Crosswell, Business Development director at Palmetto First Federal Credit Union, a participating credit union in the MADTAG movement.

Florence area Credit Unions participating in the MADTAG program collected and donated items including paper products (cups, plates, paper towels), copy paper, cleaning supplies, trash bags, and other household items.

“We’ve never had a truckload of supplies quite this size every come through here” said Jane Tuttle, Executive Director of House of Hope. “You have no idea how much this helps us” Tuttle said.

The House of Hope is a Christian Ministry serving the homeless by providing a helping hand whose primary goal is to provide relief to people in crisis.

The Credit Unions of South Carolina are challenging other businesses to Make a Difference by pitching in to give the remaining items on the House of Hope needs list.  The list includes: household cleaning items, personal care items, and office supplies. A complete list of items still needed by House of Hope can be found here.

Organized in 1934, the non-profit South Carolina Credit Union League was established by credit union leaders who believed in the cooperative spirit and the common goal of credit union growth. Today, the League and its affiliates help credit unions improve products, service delivery, and employee education. The League is also a focal point of credit unions’ collective political voice.
