Credit unions support Tom Tiffany in special election

WASHINGTON, DC (February 20, 2020) — Credit union supporter Senator Tom Tiffany won in the GOP special election primary race for a vacant U.S. House seat in Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional district. Tiffany is a candidate supported by the Credit Union Legislative Action Council (CULAC), the federal PAC of the Credit Union National Association (CUNA), and the Wisconsin Credit Union League (WCUL) and defeated Army veteran Jason Church in a 58% to 42% win.

“Our candidate, Sen. Tiffany, has been a proven supporter of the credit union movement and mission,” CUNA Deputy Chief Advocacy Officer for Political Action Trey Hawkins said. “We look forward to this credit union champion winning election to Congress in May.”

CULAC and the WCUL provided the maximum $5,000 contribution permitted by law. Sen. Tiffany will face the winner of the Democratic primary, Tricia Zunker, in the May 12 special election. The seat was previously held by Rep. Sean Duffy who resigned last fall due to family health issues.

CULAC recently announced it will spend a record $7 million in the 2020 election cycle to support congressional candidates on both sides of the aisle.
