CU*Answers volunteers at MiCareer Quest Event
GRAND RAPIDS, MI (May 6, 2015) — CU*Answers and Xtend Inc., Michigan-based cooperative CUSOs and members of the cuasterisk.com network, participated in the first annual MiCareer Quest Event in Grand Rapids, MI on April 28. Volunteers came from the Community Crew, a team organized by CUSO staff with the goal of taking charitable community-based ideas and turning them into real efforts to promote the cooperative principals that are the foundation of all credit unions.
MiCareer Quest is a hands-on career and college readiness event for middle and high school students. The event drew upwards of 6,000 students from West Michigan. Employers from advanced manufacturing, construction, healthcare and information technology worked together to provide exciting exhibits. Students had 30 minutes in each section to experience activities relating to careers in that industry. In addition, representatives from higher education were onsite to help students make that connection between training, education, and their career choice.
“Our experience in volunteering for the first MICareer Quest Event at Devos Place was astounding,” said a Community Crew volunteer. “Not only were the students excited, but we were as well. Each industry section had a wide variety of exhibitors and offered quite a bit of information about all four career tracks. What a great event to educate young minds of careers in industries that are looking for valuable employees that they might otherwise have been unaware of. It provided a bridge from what students are learning now to what job options are available to them in the future. Organizations like CU*Answers and Xtend, as well as the many others in attendance could undoubtedly benefit from this event down the road.”
