CUES Names 2012 Outstanding Chief Executive and Hall of Fame Inductees

MADISON, Wis. – The Credit Union Executives Society is pleased to announce Bert J. Hash, Jr., president/CEO, MECU of Baltimore, Inc., Baltimore, as the 2012 CUES Outstanding Chief Executive. Hash will be honored at CUES CEO/Executive Team Network, on Sunday, November 4, at The Ritz-Carlton Palm Beach, in Manalapan, Fla.

Hash has led MECU for more than 15 years. During that time, MECU grew from 57,573 members with $435 million in assets, to a 100,048 member credit union with $1.2 billion in assets. Under Hashs leadership, MECU has also received many awards and recognition for its service and commitment to those who the credit union serves. In 2010, Morgan State University created an award in Hash’s honor to acknowledge his unwavering commitment to the development of young people; the Bert J. Hash, Jr. Mentoring Award is given annually to an honors student there. Hash also serves on many boards within the community and the industry.

Bert has been a CUES member since 1997. He was honored by CUES before, when he was inducted into the CUES Hall of Fame in 2008, said Fred Johnson, CUES president/CEO. Im so pleased we can once again honor Bert; his contributions to the movement are substantial.

CUES will also honor six CUES Hall of Fame inductees: Kenneth D. Burns, CCUE, CCE, president/CEO, Patelco Credit Union, Pleasanton, Calif.; Shelley B. Clarke, former CUES board member and president/CEO, Goldenwest Federal Credit Union, Ogden, Utah, who is being honored posthumously; Charles W. Filson, chairman, Callahan & Associates, Washington, D.C.; Frederick D. Healey, Portsmouth, R.I.; Fred Johnson, CUES president/CEO, Madison, Wis.; and Harriet B. May, former president/CEO, GECU, El Paso, Texas.

Formerly known as CUES Outstanding Executive award, CUES Outstanding Chief Executive award recognizes exceptional leaders who display professional achievement, employee motivation and dedication to the community. CUES Hall of Fame inductees are nominated by the CUES Board of Directors for lifetime achievement and are recognized annually for their contributions to their profession and the industry.
