CUNA announces winner of Googolplex® Grand Prize photo contest

MADISON, WI (January 21, 2015) — Credit Union National Association (CUNA) announced today Micah, a 16-year-old member of Red Canoe Credit Union in Longview, Wash, as the winner of this year’s Googolplex® $1,000 Grand Prize photo contest. The winning photo of Lake Coeur d’Alene received more than 12,000 votes online.

Googolplex, a CUNA member-education tool for youth, comprises three customizable microsites for elementary, middle and high school students. The microsite offers $100 themed photo contests for the high school site, C-Note, which culminated with a $1,000 grand prize. By hosting the photo contest on the branded microsite, the contest drives traffic to the credit union’s website and incentivizes young members to share their entries with others.

“I’m thrilled to receive this prize,” said Micha, “I plan on saving most of the money won from the contest. I strongly believe in being responsible with and in saving money. By saving now, I hope to help myself in the future.”

Micah submitted his photo through Red Canoe Credit Union, which integrates the different levels of Googolplex into unique accounts and financial educational programs for children, teenagers, and young adults.

CUNA’s editors choose contest themes based on suggestions from a nationwide teenage panel of student contributors. The most recently announced theme is Chocolate Lovers. Students are able to vote in Googolplex contests or submit their photo entries by visiting C-Note on their credit union’s website.
