CUNA launches 2019 Small CU Scholarship Contest for GAC, sponsored by CUNA Mutual Group

WASHINGTON, DC (December 4, 2018) — For the second straight year, Credit Union National Association (CUNA) will award two small credit unions full scholarships to the CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference via a contest run through the CUNA Small Credit Union Community, sponsored by CUNA Mutual Group.

The Community is an online networking space for small credit union professionals to share ideas, ask questions, and collaborate on issues related to the operation of running a smaller credit union.

To take part in the contest, participants must submit their credit unions’ best loan promotion ideas, including information on how successful the program was and how it was executed.

“Just like all financial institutions in the marketplace today, smaller credit unions are vying for attention from current and prospective members, so creative ideas on how to attract those members can be invaluable,” said Tom Sakash, CUNA small credit union advisor.

“The great thing about the contest is that, not only will it allow two smaller credit unions to go to GAC and advocate for the movement, we will also turn the loan promotion ideas that are submitted into a new resource available only to smaller credit unions,” he added.

Credit unions can submit entries between Dec. 3, 2018 and Feb. 1, 2019 in the Discussion of the Community. The CUNA Small Credit Union Committee, a national body of small credit union leaders that tracks small credit union issues and makes recommendations on how to address them, will serve as the selection committee that picks the winners.

Announcement of the winners will take place on the Community on Tue, Feb. 5, 2019.

“CUNA Mutual Group is delighted to again partner with the CUNA Small Credit Union Community to sponsor this GAC contest,” said Bill Farley, CUNA Mutual Group sales manager. “Small credit unions continue to serve a vital role within the credit union movement and in serving the financial needs of their members.”
