CUNA Mutual Group receives international ethics recognition

MADISON, WI (March 20, 2014) – For the second straight year, CUNA Mutual Group has been recognized as one of the world’s most ethical companies by an international think tank that rates companies’ business ethics and social responsibility practices.

The Ethisphere Institute, an independent research center promoting best practices in corporate ethics and governance, cited CUNA Mutual Group among the World’s Most Ethical Companies for outperforming their industry peers in ethical behavior.

“The entire community of World’s Most Ethical Companies believe that customers, employees, investors and regulators place a high premium on trust and that ethics and good governance are key in earning it,” said Timothy Erblich, Ethisphere, chief executive officer. “CUNA Mutual Group is not only committed to its communities, but to driving performance through leading business practices. We congratulate everyone at CUNA Mutual Group for their extraordinary achievement.”

Through in-depth research and analysis, Ethisphere reviewed nominations from companies in more than 23 countries and 37 industries. After reviewing this year’s nominations, Ethisphere recognized 143 companies as 2014 World’s Most Ethical Companies.

The Ethisphere assessment provides a sampling of definitive criteria of core competencies, rather than all aspects of corporate governance, risk, sustainability compliance and ethics. The ethics framework and methodology was vetted and refined by an advisory panel of thought leaders.

Scores are generated in five key categories: ethics and compliance program (25 percent); reputation, leadership and innovation (20 percent); governance (10 percent) corporate citizenship and responsibility (25 percent) and culture of ethics (20 percent).

“CUNA Mutual Group is committed to doing the right thing for our customers, employees and the communities in which we work,” said Steve Koslow, SVP, chief ethics and compliance officer, CUNA Mutual Group. “Building a strong culture of ethics, compliance practices and corporate social responsibility is the way we do business.
