Prestigious Award Demonstrates Company’s Commitment to Technology Excellence

MADISON, Wis. – IDG’s CIO magazine has announced CUNA Mutual Group is among its 2012 CIO 100 honorees. The 25th annual awards program recognizes organizations around the world that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in information technology.

This year’s honored project for CUNA Mutual Group was its Smartphone Loan technology. The recently released mobile Web application enables credit union members to apply for a loan anywhere they take their smartphones.

The Smartphone Loan technology is the industry’s first mobile Web lending application that integrates with CUNA Mutual Group’s loanliner.com® system. By connecting mobile Web technology to loanliner.com, this application not only provides lending information and approvals anywhere on any mobile device, but it also delivers loan applications with the most current conditional approvals and compliant electronic disclosures in less than 15 seconds.

As of May 31, 2012, CUNA Mutual Group has facilitated nearly $290 million in mobile loan application submissions. More than 550 credit unions have implemented the Smartphone Loan technology since its debut in June 2011.

This year’s award recognition marks the fifth time CUNA Mutual Group has received the CIO 100 honor since 2004.

“We are very honored to again receive this prestigious technology award from CIO,” said Rick Roy, CUNA Mutual Group senior vice president and chief information officer. “This award illustrates our strong commitment to technology leadership and embracing mobile technology to help the credit union industry expand beyond traditional member segments, attract younger demographics, and strategically strengthen their position in the financial services arena.”

The recipients of this year’s CIO 100 award were selected through a three-step process. First, companies filled out an online application form detailing their innovative IT and business initiatives. Next, a team of judges reviewed the applications in depth, looking for unique practices and substantial results. Finally, CIO editors reviewed the judges’ recommendations and voted on the final 100.

“For 25 years, the CIO 100 awards have honored the innovative use of technology to deliver genuine business value,” said Maryfran Johnson, editor-in-chief of CIO magazine & events. “Our 2012 winners are an outstanding example of the transformative power of IT to drive everything from revenue growth to competitive advantage.”

Roy will accept the award on behalf of CUNA Mutual Group at the CIO 100 Symposium Aug. 21, at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.

Complete coverage of the 2012 CIO 100 awards will be online at www.cio.com on Aug. 1, 2012 and in the Aug. 1 issue of CIO magazine.
