CUNA Mutual Group supports scholarship for global leadership among credit union women

MADISON, WI (March 13, 2014) — CUNA Mutual Group is supporting women in global credit union leadership roles by sponsoring a scholarship being offered through the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU).

The WOCCU Global Women’s Leadership Network Scholarship, supported by a $20,000 CUNA Mutual Group grant, aims to further the careers of emerging credit union leaders by supporting projects that solve a problem or meet a credit union and/or a community need.

The Global Women’s Leadership Network is seeking scholarship candidates, who can apply and submit their project description at www.CUwomen.org . Successful projects will address a credit union and/or a community need and further the mission of the applicant’s credit union. The application deadline is March 28.

Beyond the scholarship, CUNA Mutual Group has expanded its support of WOCCU initiatives and recently became the only Diamond-Level supporter of the organization’s Foundation.

“Our expanded support to a long-time partner like WOCCU is a natural extension of CUNA Mutual Group’s commitment to credit unions worldwide,” said Faye Patzner, executive vice president and chief administrative officer, CUNA Mutual Group.  “We are pleased and proud to sponsor the Global Women’s Leadership Network scholarship and become the only Diamond-Level sponsor of WOCCU.”

Scholarship candidates will be selected to attend the 2014 Global Women’s Leadership Forum and World Credit Union Conference, in Australia, July 25-30. While at the 2014 Leadership Forum, the selected candidates will present their projects to the Network membership.  Network members will then vote on which candidates will receive Network support for the implementation of their project.  Those chosen will carry out their project from August 2014 through June 2015 and will return to the 2015 Global Women’s Leadership Forum in Denver, Colo., to present their project results.

“We are very grateful to CUNA Mutual Group for supporting the Global Women’s Leadership Network scholarship program,” said Brian Branch, president & CEO, WOCCU. “This will go a long way in advancing credit union women leadership across the world.”
