MADISON, Wis. (September 7, 2011) – CUNA’s Bank Secrecy Act Compliance Specialist Certification is available this October. All attendees of CUNA’s Bank Secrecy Act Conference, being held October 30 – November 2 in San Diego, CA, will have the opportunity to get certified by completing the BSA 101 session held Sunday, October 30, along with passing the exam.
Established in 1970, the Bank Secrecy Act was enacted by Washington to help in the investigations of money laundering, tax evasion and other criminal activity. Comprised of a combination of various statutes that require credit unions to record and retain certain records as well as report certain financial transactions to the federal government, the Bank Secrecy Act has become an essential piece of regulation for all credit unions to know intimately. The CUNA Bank Secrecy Act Compliance Specialist (BSACS) certification and the CUNA Bank Secrecy Act Conference are designed to help professionals stay current on the oscillating laws and regulations that make up the Bank Secrecy Act and help safeguard credit unions across the nation.
For the first time, CUNA’s Bank Secrecy Act Conference will hold a study session to prepare past certified professionals for recertification of the BSACS designation. Renewal is required every three years, and previously certified professionals can renew their BSACS certification by attending the CUNA Bank Secrecy Act Conference this October and successfully passing the recertification test that takes place on Sunday, October 30.
Along with the opportunity for certification, attendees of the CUNA Bank Secrecy Act Conference will hear from FinCEN, NCUA and OFAC agencies on what can be expected in the year to come. Compliance experts will also be discussing SAR Investigations, legal overviews, foreign national issues and immigrant issues over this four day event that takes place at the Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego.
CUNA’s early-bird conference registration discount of $100 is available to credit unions that enroll through September 18, 2011. To learn more about the BSACS certification or the CUNA Bank Secrecy Act Conference, please visit training.cuna.org/bsa.
