Cy-Fair Federal Credit Union announces 2014 High School Scholarship winners

HOUSTON, TX (June 27, 2014) — Cy-Fair Federal Credit Union, a full-service credit union based in southeast Texas, today announced the winners of the Cy-Fair Federal Credit Union Scholarship Program. The program, which is open to all students of the Cy-Fair Independent School District (ISD), awarded scholarships to eight local students demonstrating academic excellence and commitment to pursue higher education.

Anika Zaman of Cy-Ranch High School earned the Patti Jo Miller namesake scholarship and will receive $2,000 to help pay for college. Miss Miller was a beloved 20-year employee of CFFCU who lost her battle with cancer in 2010. Seven additional students will receive  $1,000 scholarships.

“Our scholarship program is one way we help our local high school seniors as they head off to college,” said Alice Wimberly, Director of the Cy-Fair & Community Scholarship Committee. “We are so proud of these students and wish them success as they begin the next phase of their education.”

Cy-Fair Federal Credit Union was established by employees of Cy-Fair ISD and remains committed to helping local students pay for continuing education after high school. The credit union’s scholarship program began in 1992 and has awarded financial assistance to 154 students totaling nearly $160,000.

“College tuition increases each year, and we want to help ensure higher education is within reach for students in the Cy-Fair community, regardless of income,” said Cy-Fair President Cameron Dickey. “The credit union had a great response of highly qualified students this year. Though we could only choose eight scholarship winners, we were impressed with the outstanding applications submitted to our selection committee.”
