DATCU Credit Union CEO to retire in 2025

DENTON, TX (January 8, 2025) |

Glen McKenzie, current DATCU CEO, has announced plans to retire in June of 2025.

The Denton-based credit union has grown to $1.6 billion in assets and has accomplished several milestones during his 24-year tenure, the last eight of which has been as CEO.

Under McKenzie’s leadership, DATCU grew significantly in membership and asset size. Perhaps as impressive as its financial growth, the credit union has scored a perfect 300 rating from IDC Financial Publishing for nine consecutive quarters.

“I am grateful to have been a part of such a great financial institution for the majority of my career,” says McKenzie.  “When I became CEO, DATCU was in a strong position, and I have always told myself I will be able to retire when I felt that I could not do anymore to improve the credit union. We’ve accomplished that and now it is time for Melanie and her team to take DATCU to a new level.”

McKenzie leaves behind a credit union that has served North Texas communities since 1936 and has recently deepened its roots with a naming rights partnership with the University of North Texas.  With more than 13 branches and plans to expand, DATCU is poised to transition well.

Lee Howell, DATCU Board Chair, “Glen and the entire staff has pushed DATCU to new heights in recent years, and we’re honored to celebrate that success during this transition.  We have full faith in Melanie Vest, Glen’s successor, and know that the credit union’s growth will continue for many years to come.”

Vest becomes the first female president and CEO of the credit union and brings more than two decades of experience at DATCU to her new position.

“I began as a teller while I was a student at the University of North Texas,” says Vest. “I am deeply invested in DATCU’s history and future, and I know that our path forward will be to continue serving our community while making it a better place to live.”

Vest spearheaded the recent football stadium naming rights agreement with the University of North Texas Athletics and is setting the tone for further expansion in the area.

“I am confident that under Melanie’s guidance and the Board’s vision DATCU will continue to thrive,” McKenzie adds. “I know the time is right, and I look forward to watching DATCU continue to evolve and grow.”
