DATCU Credit Union donates $100,000 to community playground
DENTON, TX (July 23, 2015) — DATCU, a leading full-service credit union presented a donation of $100,000 to the Denton Parks Foundation at the Denton City Council meeting held on July 21st. The presentation was made by DATCU’s Chief Executive Officer, Dale Kimble and President, Glen McKenzie.
“Denton is our birthplace and a part of our heritage for almost 80 years. It is our honor and privilege to give back in support of this community project. This donation of $100,000 to the Eureka 2 Community Playground enables DATCU to share in enhancing the lives of our kids. This revitalized playground provides a place to play freely, interact with other children and families, and to engage in healthy outdoor activity. We chose to donate to this project because it’s good for our children and that’s what we do as a credit union – we give back” stated DATCU Chief Executive Officer, Dale Kimble.
Denton’s Eureka Playground located in South Lake Park was originally designed and built in 1995. Now, twenty years later, this much loved and used playground is nearing the end of its life. The current costs of maintenance and the need to meet newer playground safety standards make this project a necessity if families are to continue to enjoy this play area. The construction of Eureka II will preserve the nature of the original playground and offer increased accessibility for children with special needs.
In response to the donation the chairman of the Eureka II Project, Chrissy Mallouf said “We are very excited about DATCU’s generous gift. Eureka 2 will truly be unique to our community—designed by Denton schoolchildren, constructed by Denton volunteers, and supported by Denton leaders like DATCU. DATCU’s support has really propelled the project forward. Thanks to this gift, we have begun ordering some of the unique and accessible play equipment that will distinguish Eureka 2.
