DCECU employee fundraiser benefits Multiple Sclerosis Society’s search for a cure
MIDLAND, MI (June 20, 2014) — Employees at Dow Chemical Employees’ Credit Union raised $335 for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society – Michigan Chapter through their most recent “Jeans Day” fundraiser. For each of the one-day fundraisers, which occur throughout the year, participating credit union employees donate a minimum of $5. This donation enables them to wear blue jeans, tennis shoes and logoed attire to work that day.
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s vision is a world free of multiple sclerosis (MS) through the mobilization of people and resources to drive research for a cure and to address the challenges of everyone affected by MS. Multiple sclerosis is a potentially debilitating disease in which the body’s immune system attacks the protective sheath that covers the body’s nerves. Damage to the sheaths causes interference in the communication between the brain, spinal cord and other areas of the body, which may result in irreversible deterioration of the nerves themselves.
“Our staff truly believes in building a strong and healthy community,” said DCECU President/CEO Dennis Hanson. “Our fundraisers and volunteer events are completely driven by the passion of our employees. By supporting organizations that share our vision – communities where those in need have access to hope and help – we know we are helping to make the world a better place.”
Already in 2014, the employees have raised more than $1,500 for charitable and community organizations through regular Jeans Day fundraisers. In addition, staff members have organized and participated in volunteer events such as roadway cleanup projects and Habitat for Humanity builds.
