DCECU employees raise money for Nepal earthquake relief
MIDLAND, MI (June 16, 2015) – Dow Chemical Employees’ Credit Union staff members raised $325 to support earthquake relief efforts in Nepal through their most recent “Jeans Day for Charity” fundraiser. For each of the one-day fundraisers throughout the year, participating DCECU employees donate a minimum of $5, which entitles them to wear blue jeans, tennis shoes and logoed attire to work that day.
On April 25, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck near Kathmandu, Nepal, killing thousands. In the wake of the disaster, the World Council of Credit Unions and its Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions, Inc., collaborated with the Nepal Federation of Savings & Credit Cooperative Unions and Association of Asian Confederation Credit Unions to launch a fundraising campaign to provide relief for the massively damaged Nepalese credit unions and their employees and members. The Jeans Day funds were contributed to the WOCCU campaign.
“The credit union is proud to support charitable efforts – not just at the local level, but also internationally,” said DCECU President/CEO Dennis Hanson. “The earthquake in Nepal was devastating, and our employees wanted to do what they could to help.”
Thus far in 2015, DCECU employees have raised more than $1,400 for charitable and community organizations through regular Jeans Day for Charity fundraisers.
