DCU and Workbar launch the DCU Center of Excellence in Financial Services

BOSTON, MA (June 10, 2014) — On Wednesday, June 25th, 2014, DCU (Digital Federal Credit Union) and Workbar will host a launch event for the DCU Center of Excellence in Financial Services – a coworking and resource center in Downtown Boston for finance sector startups.

Located at 695 Atlantic Ave, just one block from Workbar Boston, the DCU Center of Excellence in Financial Services serves as a knowledge center and collaborative workspace for financial startups by offering month-to-month workspace, industry-specific mentorship, access to senior-level executives at DCU, programming, resources, and networking to its members. In addition to financial services resources offered by DCU, members of the Center have access to Workbar’s network of coworking spaces, events, programming, and 700 member-strong community.

Since its soft launch in January, the Center has established a core group of growing FinTech startup companies whose focus is on credit scoring, wealth management, and investing. As the Center grows, DCU and Workbar hope to drive programming and conversations that encourage more innovation and investment in Boston’s finance-based startups.

“I think it’s great how DCU is showing that credit unions can be some of the most innovative entities in the financial sector.  By embracing entrepreneurs and change, DCU through its Center of Excellence is lowering the barriers for the appearance of new business models that can have a positive impact on society.” says Ernesto Humpierres, the founder of Socrex and a member of the Center since April 2014.

“Through this collaboration, we hope to play a vital role in the changing environment of the financial services industry. The partnership that we’ve created with Workbar is setting the stage for continued innovation on our part and allowing DCU to foster and give back to emerging FinTech companies.” states David Araujo, DCU’s vice president of information systems.

“Industry relationships are one of the fastest ways a startup can accelerate its growth and market knowledge.  Now Workbar financial services startups can build camaraderie with other FinTech companies and DCU industry leaders, just by going to the office.” states Bill Jacobson, CEO/Co-Founder of Workbar.

On June 25th, the Center will open to the public and feature demos from member companies, networking and refreshments. DCU and Workbar invite you to RSVP and come celebrate.
