DCUC and Cohost State Department FCU conclude successful Overseas Conference

WASHINGTON, DC (May 8, 2026) |

The Defense Credit Union Council (DCUC), and cohost State  Department Federal Credit Union (SDFCU), recently concluded a successful Overseas Sub Council Conference in Bangkok, Thailand.

The conference convened credit union CEOs, board members, and senior executives of  DCUC’s Overseas Sub-Council for discussions focused on the unique challenges and  opportunities facing credit unions operating internationally. Attendees received timely insights  from government officials and industry experts to remain informed, connected, and mission ready while supporting servicemembers, diplomats, and their families.

Given the longstanding diplomatic ties between the U.S. and Thailand and increasing military  focus across the Pacific, the gathering highlighted the importance of strong alliances and  reliable financial services in sustaining operational readiness abroad.

“This conference reinforces the important role credit unions play in supporting financial  readiness for Americans serving around the world,” said DCUC President/CEO Anthony  Hernandez, Ret. USAF Colonel. “At a time of heightened geopolitical complexity, ensuring  secure, reliable financial services for our military and diplomatic communities is more important  than ever.”

“Co-hosting DCUC’s overseas conference reflects our shared commitment to strengthening  global diplomacy and supporting U.S. personnel’s financial well-being wherever they serve,”  said Jim Hayes, State Department FCU President/CEO, DCUC Board Secretary. “By bringing  leaders together in this region, we’re advancing collaboration and ensuring our institutions  remain prepared to meet the needs of members in dynamic and ever-changing environments.”

DCUC emphasized that hosting this year’s overseas conference in the Pacific region was a  deliberate and strategic decision, reinforcing the importance of diplomacy, partnership, and  financial access in areas where U.S. engagement continues to evolve.

The Overseas Sub-Council Conference remains a cornerstone forum for collaboration,  equipping credit union leaders with the insights and connections needed to effectively serve  members stationed across the globe.
