DCUC honored as a Savings Champion by Military Saves

WASHINGTON, DC (July 22, 2020) — DCUC is pleased to receive the annual Military Saves Savings Champion award from Military Saves. This honor is reserved for organizations who directly serve the military community and exhibit outstanding efforts in motivating their communities to build wealth and reduce debt.

“The COVID-19 pandemic is an unfortunate situation that is currently impacting military families and their finances. The timing of Military Saves Month has helped to spearhead the conversation around saving during a national crisis and help service members and their families take action toward their savings plan,” said Angela Caban, Military Saves Director. “The installations, organizations, and supporters awarded went above and beyond to encourage and support the military community to save.”

“The designees awarded all pivoted to promote a fully digital campaign in response to the COVID-19 pandemic,” she continued. “These organizations don’t just tell people why it’s important to save, they help them do it. They all play an important role in Military Saves Month encouraging all military families to take financial action during the month. These organizations excelled in their use of social media platforms and podcasts as well as email communications.”

Military Saves Month, held in April, is an annual opportunity for the entire military community to assess their savings status and make a plan to start or increase saving, and for organizations to support good savings behavior.

“DCUC is proud to support Military Saves throughout the year, especially during Military Saves Month. These extraordinary times make it more important than ever for DCUC and defense credit unions to support our military community in setting and reaching their savings goals,” stated Anthony Hernandez, DCUC President and CEO.

Six defense credit unions received the Military Saves Designation of Savings Excellence: Air Force Federal Credit Union, Freedom Federal Credit Union, Navy Federal Credit Union, New Horizons Credit Union, PenFed Credit Union, and Travis Credit Union. These credit unions have gone above and beyond to serve their military members during this time. DCUC will be recognizing their achievement during an online ceremony on August 13, 2020.
