WASHINGTON, DC (June 22, 2026) |
Today, the Defense Credit Union Council (DCUC) submitted a comment letter to the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) in response to the agency's Request for Information (RFI) seeking opportunities to enhance and streamline its data collection processes for federally insured credit unions.
In its comments, DCUC expressed support for the NCUA's continued use of Call Reports and Profile submissions to collect supervisory information while emphasizing that reporting requirements should be routinely evaluated to ensure they remain necessary, relevant, and appropriately tailored to their intended supervisory purpose.
DCUC encouraged the agency to view the RFI as the beginning of an ongoing dialogue with the credit union industry, recommending continued engagement with the professionals responsible for preparing Call Reports and Profile submissions as future revisions are considered. DCUC also requested the agency to improve the clarity and consistency of its Call Report Instructions by providing additional examples, frequently asked questions, and guidance for reporting fields that commonly generate errors.
Additionally, DCUC suggested the NCUA conduct a comprehensive review of every data point collected to determine whether each serves a critical supervisory, insurance, or regulatory purpose; remove of duplicative reporting requirements; and ensure Profile documents only require certification and resubmission when changes have occurred.
"Credit unions share the NCUA's commitment to accurate and meaningful reporting, but data collection should always serve a clear supervisory purpose and not create unnecessary administrative burdens," says Jason Stverak, DCUC Chief Advocacy Officer. "By regularly reviewing reporting requirements, improving guidance, eliminating duplicative requests, and maintaining an ongoing dialogue with industry stakeholders, the NCUA can modernize its data
collection process while allowing credit unions to devote more time and resources to serving their members."
