WASHINGTON, DC (December 16, 2025) |
The Defense Credit Union Council, DCUC, expressed its strong support for the bipartisan Housing for the 21st Century Act in a letter to leaders of the House Financial Services Committee and its Subcommittee on Housing and Insurance.
DCUC applauds the comprehensive housing package for addressing the nation’s housing affordability crisis with a focus on modernizing programs, removing development barriers, and prioritizing veterans and vulnerable households. DCUC stressed that the bill’s recognition of military and veteran housing needs is both timely and essential.
“Stable, affordable housing is foundational to the financial well-being of those who serve our nation and critical to military readiness,” says Anthony Hernandez, DCUC President/CEO.
In the letter, DCUC highlighted the unique housing challenges faced by military families, including frequent relocations and rising costs exceeding housing allowances, and shared how defense credit unions actively support these communities through specialized programs, VA loan innovations, and housing counseling.
Jason Stverak, DCUC Chief Advocacy Officer, echoed, “We’re asking Congress to essentially build on this momentum by modernizing credit union lending caps, expanding access to federal housing programs, streamlining VA home loans, and incentivizing affordable housing development.”
DCUC commends the Committee’s bipartisan leadership and stands ready to partner in advancing solutions that support military families and veterans.”
