DCUC’s Janet Sked to retire after 23 years of conferences

WASHINGTON, DC (January 18, 2022) — Janet Sked, DCUC’s long-time Conference Manager, has announced her retirement.  After 23 years of managing DCUC’s conferences and events, Sked will step down at the end of June 2022.

As Conference Manager, Sked has been instrumental in shaping DCUC’s events, to include the Annual and Overseas conferences, creating the quintessential “family-reunion” atmosphere DCUC events are known for.  Over the last two decades, she has helped to modernize DCUC’s agenda and format, finding the best speakers, selecting outstanding hotels, and making sure that each event is one to remember.

Anthony Hernandez, DCUC’s President/CEO said, “Janet has been a fundamental part of DCUC. She’s worked tirelessly to create some of the industry’s best conferences over the years. She is highly regarded by our members and staff, and we could not be where we are today without Janet’s effort.  We will all miss her and wish her a very happy retirement.”

In addition to the ins and outs that go into running a conference, Sked has left a lasting impact on DCUC, its members, and its sponsors. She has built long lasting and meaningful relationships within our industry and was instrumental in the creation of DCUC’s Conference with a Purpose, where attendees, guests, and sponsors of the Annual Conference raise funds for a military connected charity. Over the last 19 years, the Conference with a Purpose fundraisers have raised over $390,000.

“It has been an honor and privilege to serve the DCUC membership as Conference Manager for over 20 years. I would like to thank Arty Arteaga, who initially put his trust in me in 2000, and to Tony Hernandez who asked me to continue in this role after he became the new President/CEO of the Defense Credit Union Council in 2017,” shared Sked. “I recently made the difficult decision to retire as DCUC’s Conference Manager at the end of June. I also want to thank all of the DCUC member credit unions and our valuable corporate sponsors for your support and kindness through all these years. I have come to consider many of you as my friends. Each year, I have looked forward to seeing you at our conferences, either in the U.S. or Overseas, and I am grateful for the positive impact you had in my life, and I will miss you.”
