Desert Schools Federal Credit Union hosts 16th annual Children’s Miracle Network Charity Golf Tournament

PHOENIX, AZ (March 7, 2014) – Desert Schools Federal Credit Union, the largest not-for-profit membership-based financial institution in the state of Arizona, hosted its 16th annual Children’s Miracle Network Charity Golf Tournament on Monday, March 3, locally benefiting Phoenix Children’s Hospital (PCH). Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals is an international non-profit organization that raises funds for children’s hospitals, medical research and community awareness of children’s health issues.

The 2014 tournament raised $341,000 for the two organizations, who continue to be the sole beneficiaries of the event since the tournament’s inception in 1998. Since that time, the tournament has raised more than $2.4 million dollars, benefiting PCH’s “1 Darn Cool School” program, which provides education for children who undergo long-term treatment at the facility. The school, open year-round five days a week, provides individualized instruction for all students, grades K-12, making it possible for the hospital’s patients to keep up with school work in a nurturing environment. Should a child not be able to travel to the dedicated classroom at PCH, bedside instruction is also available. PCH is one of only a few hospitals in the nation that employs its own teaching staff, providing patients with the necessary stability and routine that a student needs, while also promoting both physical and mental health with lowered anxiety levels.

“This year we are celebrating 75 years as a local organization that continually looks for ways to give back in the Valley and in 2014, we have committed to donating more than $1 million to the community through our Shine On program,” said Ron Amstutz, Executive Vice President of Desert Schools Federal Credit Union. “Our partners, our customers, and our friends in the community help to make these donations possible all year long. Today, we are incredibly grateful for the support of this year’s tournament participants for their support of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and Phoenix Children’s Hospital.”

Phoenix Children’s Hospital is Arizona’s only licensed children’s hospital, providing world-class inpatient, outpatient, trauma, emergency and urgent care to children and families in Arizona and throughout the Southwest. As one of the largest children’s hospitals in the country, Phoenix Children’s provides care across over 70 pediatric specialties and is poised for continued growth in quality patient care, research and medical education.

Desert Schools Federal Credit Union has built its foundation on a fundamental passion for taking an active role in the community by giving back. The credit union remains committed to giving back financially in 2014 with its Shine On community giving initiative.
