DuPont Goodrich FCU awards $7,000 in scholarships

BEAUMONT, TX (June 23, 2014) — Five Southeast Texas high school seniors are one step closer to their college dreams with a little help from DuPont Goodrich Federal Credit Union (DuGood).

This month, the credit union presented five $500 scholarships to:

Lainey Bergen – West Brook High School
Brendan Cunningham – West Brook High School
Kade Geoffroy – Port Neches-Groves High School
Dean Goutier – Nederland High School
Bryan Landrum – Bridge City High School

In January, DuGood issued a challenge to its student members.  Film a video, write a song, or create a unique entry highlighting the benefits of credit union membership.  In return, five high school seniors would be selected to win a scholarship.

The challenge had three purposes: to give back to local students, educate youth about the credit union movement and to encourage greater engagement with DuGood’s student members.

“The class of 2014 certainly rose to our challenge.” Marketing Communications Specialist Rebecca Prince said.

“We received all kind of entries, videos, and even a rap!  Our credit union has given scholarships to students in the community for many years, but we decided to try something new.  We are really pleased with the response.”

Rapping to the tune of MC Hammer’s “Can’t Touch This” is not the only way DuGood’s student members can score scholarship money.  Over the past year, the credit union has disbursed over $4,500 through their Scholarship Rewards program.

Whenever students and their families choose to use a custom debit card, they can earn cash for college simply by signing for their purchase every time they shop.  Reward points can be redeemed for tuition, books, and other academic needs.
