Educational Systems Federal Credit Union supports continued learning during the summer

GREENBELT, MD (July 7, 2015) — One of many ways that Educational Systems Federal Credit Union will support education this summer is by donating 1,500 rulers, 1,500 pencils and $1,000 to the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Retirees Association’s “Toolkits, Books and Backpacks” project. The project supports the Extended Learning Opportunities Summer Adventures in Learning (ELO SAIL) program, a free four-week summer school program available in 24 selected Title I elementary schools.

The MCPS Retirees Association created the “Toolkits, Books, and Backpacks” project in 2003 to help homeless and economically disadvantaged students each summer. The donated school supplies and the monetary support provided by Educational Systems FCU will be used to assemble toolkits, which are distributed to each school site and sent home with each student.

“We are grateful to Educational Systems FCU for being committed to making the future a bright one for children in our county by partnering with us each year,” said Joan Donovan, Co-Chair of the special projects committee of the MCPS Retirees Association.  “By donating school supplies, it enables us to purchase other learning material for inclusion in the toolkits. These toolkits provide not only the supplies that these children need at home to support their learning but also gives kindergartners a fair and equal start to their educational journey in life regardless of their families’ economic status.”

“We are proud to support education and the “Toolkits, Books and Backpacks” project,” said Chris Conway, President/CEO of Educational Systems FCU. “We believe that helping students continue to learn over the summer provides the foundation for a successful school year and beyond.”

Educational Systems FCU (esfcu.org) has proudly served the education community for 60 years. With $800 million in assets and 12 branches, the Credit Union serves 87,000 members in seven school systems and three community colleges throughout Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, Montgomery, Prince George’s, St. Mary’s and Talbot counties.
