Educational Systems Federal Credit Union supports summer learning in Montgomery County

GREENBELT, MD (August 4, 2014) — As part of Educational Systems Federal Credit Union’s commitment to supporting education, the Credit Union is joining forces with the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Retirees Association’s “Toolkits, Books, and Backpacks” project to help economically disadvantaged elementary school children this summer. Educational Systems FCU is donating 1,500 rulers and a monetary contribution to help these children and their families prepare for a successful school year.

The MCPS Retirees Association created the “Toolkits, Books, and Backpacks” project in 2003 together with former MCPS Superintendent Dr. Jerry Weast to help elementary school children at 25 schools each summer. Once the kits are assembled and distributed to each school site, parents are provided assistance to help them learn how to best use the items and lesson plans provided in the toolkits.

“Without our partnership with Educational Systems FCU and other community businesses, we could not possibly provide the number of items needed by the students,” said Joan Donovan, Co-Chair of the special projects committee of the MCPS Retirees Association.  “These donations allow us to purchase other required items, which we have not been able to afford in the past. We are most grateful for the generosity, commitment and caring assistance from our Credit Union over the years to help the neediest of our county’s youth.”

For nearly 60 years, Educational Systems FCU has been serving the education community.  With over $750 million in assets and 11 branches, the Credit Union serves nearly 90,000 members in seven school systems and three community colleges throughout Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, Montgomery, Prince George’s, St. Mary’s and Talbot counties.
