Educational Systems Federal Credit Union’s President/CEO recognized as Professional of the Year

GREENBELT, MD (June 16, 2015) — Educational Systems Federal Credit Union is proud to announce that its President/CEO, Chris Conway, was the recipient of the MD|DC Credit Union Association’s Judith A. Burgin Memorial Professional of the Year Award.

The award was presented to Mr. Conway during the 10th Annual Meeting of the MD|DC Credit Union Association. The award is given annually to a credit union professional who has demonstrated outstanding leadership, achieved exceptional results, motivated employees and volunteers, and has made significant contributions to the credit union movement. This is the second time Chris Conway has received this award in the past four years.

Conway’s experience in the credit union industry started over 25 years ago. Prior to becoming President/CEO in 2007, he had experience working in branches, finance, information systems, operations, and lending. As the President/CEO of Educational Systems FCU, Conway developed and committed to a focused strategy of serving the education community that has led to remarkable growth and financial success. The results of Conway’s strategy for the Credit Union have been unparalleled in the credit union industry. Since March of 2012, assets of Educational Systems FCU have grown from $392 million to more than $787 million, members have grown from 39,800 to 86,986, branches have grown from 6 to 12, capital has grown from $36 million to over $78 million, loans have grown from $201 million to over $448 million, and total shares have grown from $314 million to over $672 million. During the past three years, Return on Assets (ROA) has steadily increased from 0.61% in 2012, to 0.63% in 2013, and to 1.79% for 2014, which was twice the ROA of National Credit Union Administration peer credit unions. The Credit Union’s capital ratio has grown from 7.14% to 10.12% as of the end of 2014.

“Chris represents the very best in credit union leadership and innovation,” stated Laura Eacho, Executive Vice President/Chief of Staff at Educational Systems FCU. “He has achieved tremendous growth and success in a short period of time because of his clearly defined vision and strategy that supports the philosophy of credit unions as not-for-profit financial cooperatives serving a distinct member community.”

MD|DC Credit Union Association (mddccua.org) is a regional trade association representing 150 credit unions in Maryland and the District of Columbia. The MD|DC Credit Union Association provides affiliates with advocacy, education, resources and services to help them better serve their members.

Educational Systems FCU (esfcu.org) has proudly served the education community for 60 years. With over $790 million in assets and 12 branches, the Credit Union serves nearly 87,000 members in seven school systems and three community colleges throughout Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, Montgomery, Prince George’s, St. Mary’s and Talbot counties.
