Educational Employees Credit Union (EECU) proudly announced today the distribution of 50 student grants totaling $100,000 to support its members’ pursuit of higher education. Administered annually since 2003, the program has to date distributed more than $1.9 million in financial assistance to students.
Designed to help cover tuition, books, and other education-related expenses, the EECU Student Grant Program invites applications from members pursuing post-high school education at community colleges, universities, vocational schools, or professional training programs across the country.
A diverse volunteer reading committee, made up of local educators and community representatives, carefully reviews each eligible submission before selecting awardees.
“Access to affordable education is at the heart of our mission,” said Elizabeth J. Dooley, EECU president and CEO. “By granting these funds, we’re not only helping students pay for their schooling, we’re investing in the future of our community.”
This year’s class of grant recipients includes students pursuing a wide range of educational goals, from recent high school graduates starting at community college to skilled workers pursuing specialized certificates in their trades to professionals working toward their doctoral degrees.
As one of this year’s recipients, Denise Davis is planning to use the grant to help her cover tuition and books as she pursues her master’s degree in social work from National University.
“I’m very grateful to have received a student grant from EECU,” Davis said. “As a single mom, it’s really helped alleviate some of the stress and allowed me to stretch my budget to cover all of my expenses while I’m in school.”
