Eight credit union professionals, volunteers, and credit unions honored with 2015 LSCU Awards

BIRMINGHAM, AL/TALLAHASSEE, FL (June 24, 2015) – The League of Southeastern Credit Unions & Affiliates (LSCU) announced the recipients of the LSCU Awards on Friday, June 19, during the Dinner, Entertainment, and Silent Auction event at the 2015 Southeast Credit Union Conference & Expo (SCUCE). Three credit unions and five executives were recognized for their work and dedication with these awards. For the first time, there was a tie in one category so two Professional of the Year awards were given.

The awards highlighted professionals, volunteers, and credit unions that have made outstanding contributions to the development and growth of the credit union movement in Alabama and Florida. Each award was also accompanied by a video highlighting the good works of each recipient.

“This year our awards committee had 34 nominees in total,” said LSCU President/CEO Patrick La Pine. “It was a daunting task to pick winners in each category. So many of the individuals have given tirelessly to not only seeing that their credit union succeeds, but to help their fellow credit unions and lend their expertise. The credit unions showed a passion not only for their members but their community as well.”

The prestigious LSCU Award categories and winners were:

  • Distinguished Service Award: James Phillips, former manager of BF Goodrich E CU (now Alabama One), credit union consultant
  • Professional of the Year (tie): Betty Mixon, CEO, Gulf Coast Federal Credit Union
Bob Steensma, CEO, Five Star Credit Union
