El Paso’s GECU proudly breaks ground on first new Mexico branch in Las Cruces

Thousands of Southern NM members will soon enjoy convenience of GECU’s newest location

EL PASO, TX (April 23, 2024) — GECU has proudly been the El Paso, Texas, and the Borderland’s leading credit union for more than 90 years, including serving over 34,500 members across New Mexico. Recently, GECU celebrated a significant milestone with a groundbreaking ceremony for its inaugural Las Cruces branch, its first in New Mexico. The groundbreaking ceremony was held on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.

The ceremony was held at the future branch location at Rinconada Boulevard and Northrise Drive in Las Cruces, NM. This event marks GECU’s commitment to further supporting the Southern New Mexico community and expanding its reach within the Land of Enchantment.

Esteemed guests and dignitaries, included Las Cruces Mayor Eric Enriquez, will be in attendance to speak about the future branch. Also expected are Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Debbi Moore, New Mexico State University (NMSU) Foundation Senior Director of Development Martin Muñoz, NMSU College of Business Dean Bryan Ashenbaum, GECU Board Chairman Greg Watters, GECU Board members Guadalupe Giner and Grace Vaughn, and GECU Board Associate Directors Abraham Valenzuela and Hans Sassenfeld.

 “Having a branch in this wonderful community is something that we have been planning for quite some time, and we’re thrilled to see it become a reality,” says Alex Rascón, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of GECU. “This new neighborhood branch will not only bring essential financial services closer to our members, but also exemplify our ongoing commitment to supporting the growth and prosperity of Las Cruces and Southern New Mexico.”

The new Las Cruces branch, set to open by early-2025, will feature innovative technology and resources tailored to meet the community’s evolving financial needs. It will include three drive-up lanes offering personal teller services and 24/7 ATMs for convenient transactions. Membership is open to the residents of Las Cruces and New Mexico. During the groundbreaking ceremony, GECU highlighted its ongoing community involvement through initiatives such as free tax preparation through our VITA site at NMSU, supporting local organizations like Casa de Peregrinos sponsoring events like the upcoming 2nd Annual Mira Las Cruces Festival.
