Etowah Valley Federal Credit Union members vote to join with Georgia United Credit Union

DULUTH, GA (July 8, 2015) — The membership of Etowah Valley Federal Credit Union voted yesterday in support of the proposed merger with Georgia United Credit Union. The vote took place at a Special Meeting held at Etowah Valley FCU’s office on July 7, 2015. The merger will be effective August 3, 2015.

Debbie Smith, president/CEO of Georgia United Credit Union, stated: “We welcome the members and employees of Etowah Valley into our family. This strategic partnership enables us to pool our resources and enhance the member experience while continuing to expand our range of service into Cartersville and Bartow County.”

The Board of Directors for Georgia United Credit Union and Etowah Valley FCU had previously announced their intention to merge earlier this year. Both credit union boards approved and submitted merger plans to their respective state and federal regulatory agencies, regulatory approval was granted, and the approval from Etowah Valley FCU membership was the last requirement to finalize merger plans.

Upon completion of the merger, the two credit unions will move forward as one legal entity, operating under the name and charter of Georgia United Credit Union. Georgia United will maintain the existing Etowah Valley branch in Cartersville, Ga., and open its doors as one on August 3. This is in addition to Georgia United’s other 17 branches in the state, plus nationwide access through the shared branch network.
