Financial Reality Fair helps over 850 high school students prepare for life after graduation

STRATFORD, CT (May 20, 2026) |

Why wait to learn how to manage monthly mortgage expenses when you can start preparing early? This Spring, Sikorsky Credit Union held several Financial Reality Fairs, providing over 850 high school students with hands-on experiences in financial decision-making.

Held at Ansonia High School, Stratford High School, Shelton High School, and Bunnell High School, the Financial Reality Fairs gave students experience managing personal finances. Students had the ability to choose a career and salary, then worked through real-life budgeting decisions involving housing, transportation, food, entertainment, and other everyday expenses. To mirror real world challenges, students also faced unexpected costs such as car repairs and medical bills, highlighting the importance of budgeting, saving, and financial planning.

“The Ansonia High School Business Department is incredibly grateful for our continued partnership with Sikorsky Credit Union and their commitment to providing our seniors with a meaningful Financial Reality Fair experience.” said Karen Phipps, Career and Technical Education Lead Teacher at Ansonia High School. “The experience helps seniors better understand the responsibilities of adulthood while building confidence in their ability to plan for the future.”

“Financial literacy is one of the most important life skills students can develop, and this program makes those lessons tangible and engaging,” said Whitney Cadett, Vice President of Marketing and Strategic Growth. “Students leave with a better understanding of how everyday financial choices can impact their future, while gaining valuable experience that will help them make informed decisions as they enter adulthood.”
