First Capital FCU awards two $1,000 Dennis Flickinger Honorable Scholarships to members!

First Capital Federal Credit Union is proud to announce Rachel Ritchey and Sonia Kumar as the 2019 Dennis Flickinger Honorable Scholarship winners.  This week, both winners visited First Capital to receive their checks for $1,000 to be used towards their first year of schooling.

“We had such an amazing group of applicants this year,” said Sue DeStephano, President/CEO. “But, Rachel and Sonia wowed us with their essays and their benevolence.  We are so pleased to present them with these scholarships to help out with their college expenses.”

Rachel attends West York Area High School.  She will enter Millersville University this fall and pursue a degree in Communications and Musical Theatre.  Rachel is in the National Honor Society.  She participates in Student Council, Choir, and Musicals.  She volunteers her time at children’s theatre camps and with the local Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Teen Task Force.

Sonia is a student at Central York High School.  She will enter Case Western Reserve University in the fall and pursue a degree in Biomedical Engineering.  Sonia aspires to work in the medical device industry.  Currently Sonia is in the National Honor Society, as well as the Science and Math National Honor Societies.  She volunteers her time at Wellspan York Hospital as well as the Natyashala School of Dance.

The First Capital scholarship program was renamed the Dennis Flickinger scholarship program in 2016 to honor our former CEO, Dennis Flickinger, who retired in 2015.  Dennis advocated for financial education in schools and worked tirelessly to promote Credit Unions as a better choice for their financial future.
