First Community awards two SIUE business students scholarship
GLEN CARBON, IL (August 13, 2021) — First Community for the first time implemented a scholarship program, and it made the most sense to create that partnership with Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville (SIUE). First Community started their journey with SIUE in 2019 when they became the naming partner of their Arena. First Community Arena houses the volleyball and basketball programs for SIUE among other various school and community events.
First Community awarded two SIUE students each with a $1500 scholarship for the SIUE School of Business. The parameters of this scholarship was that they had to be a junior or senior in academic standing, provide an essay that describes their experience with SIUE School of business relating to personal achievements and future goals, and be a member of First Community. The winners that were chosen were Tonya Richardson (O’Fallon, Mo) and Juan Mendez-Guillen (Granite City, Il).
“We were looking for ways to expand our partnership with SIUE by helping students continue their education and financially succeed while in the Business School. We really want to see the students at SIUE thrive not only in the First Community Arena, but in the classroom as well.” commented First Community President/CEO, Glenn D. Barks.
Richardson is an adult student in full-time employment, with a major in Accountancy. She is set to graduate in spring 2022. Mendez-Gullien is in his final year in the SIUE business school majoring in Business Administration/Marketing.
