First Financial helps to feed the hungry with $50,000 donation to the Maryland Food Bank

First Financial Federal Credit Union donated $50,000 to the Maryland Food Bank to support the organization’s mission of serving the food insecure populations throughout Maryland. The donation will help the Maryland Food Bank meet the community’s growing need by providing meals and resources to those experiencing hunger in Maryland, especially those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The pandemic has certainly changed the way we live. Every day, Marylanders continue to face uncertainty and unprecedented challenges in almost every aspect of their lives,” said First Financial President/CEO Eric Church. “In this time of great need, we know the importance of partnering with vital organizations, like the Maryland Food Bank, who share the same commitment and responsibility to serving those in need. Together, we can make a difference for our community and provide relief to the food insecure during these difficult times.”

First Financial has already taken several actions to support its community, members, and employees. The credit union has provided hot meals and gift cards to employees of essential businesses who continue to operate on the front lines. Additionally, First Financial serves many of the area hospitals and has contributed to their emergency funds, which help to provide meals and protective gear to the healthcare employees. Members have also benefited from a variety of support programs, including loan payment deferral options, increased availability of funds, no-penalty early withdrawals from share certificates, and free financial education – and First Financial is ready to provide more assistance in the days ahead.
