First New York FCU and Catholic Charities Tri-County Services 2022 Toilet Paper Drive

ALBANY, NY (December 22, 2022) — From November 2022 through the second week of January 2023, First New York Federal Credit Union (FCU) will be hosting our annual Toilet Paper Drive to benefit the community members who are served by Catholic Charities Tri-County Services. In an effort to assist Capital Region SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Programs) recipients who can’t receive personal care items through SNAP, First New York FCU will be collecting toilet paper, to be distributed by Catholic Charities, with the goal of beating last year’s total of 11,119 donated rolls.

Now more than ever, donations can have a huge impact on local families and individuals who are having a harder time affording basic items due to inflation and the rising cost of living. First New York will present the donations to Catholic Charities Tri-County Services during the second week of January 2023.

Sister Betsy Van Deusen, CEO of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Albany, said:

“We are so grateful to First New York FCU and their members for again helping families throughout the Capital Region. Toilet paper may seem like a small thing, but to those who are unable to afford it, this donation is truly a game changer. It not only provides a critical personal care item to our neighbors in need, but raises awareness to a need many of us simply take for granted in our day-to-day life.”

Jenn Hyde, Executive Director of Catholic Charities Tri-County Services, said:

“Through this toilet paper drive and their continued year-round support, First New York Federal Credit Union is providing dignity to the people in the Capital Region. Simply imagine not having toilet paper. At Catholic Charities, we are seeing more and more people turning to our pantries for help, food, and even toilet paper. They simply do not have the means to keep up with the current inflation rate. I’d like to thank First New York and all those who’ve donated to this toilet paper drive for their generosity. Your donations mean so much to the children, older adults, and all of the people we serve.
Thank you.”

Since 2016, First New York FCU employees and members as well as the community at large have rallied to collect approximately 43K rolls of toilet paper and 10K rolls of paper towels. This year alone we’ve already started to gather thousands of donations of toilet paper and additional personal care items.

We’ve set up designated bins at each of our branches to make toilet paper collection easy and convenient. We encourage anyone interested in giving to stop by at the nearest First New York FCU location. All donations will go to Catholic Charities Tri-County Services, an agency made up of 5 food pantries and 2 soup kitchens located throughout the Capital District, to assist families and individuals who are most in need.
